The way a citizen participates within the community has an affect on the community, there are four different types of relationships which a citizen will have when participating within the community. There is loyalty, voice, neglect, and exit. All four lead to different outcomes. If a citizen neglects to participate in government then many of the laws past may impact them in a negative way due to their lack speaking up. Rather, when a person engages with the community by staying loyal and voicing their opinion then they experience with laws past is much more positive.
The site in which I will be doing my community engagement is with the San Bruno Mountain watch. The San Bruno Mountain Watch helps preserve and maintain the habitat on the mountain which is surrounded by about 4 different cities such as Brisbane, San Bruno, Daly City, and a small part of San Francisco. This Mountain was going to be carved down to create more homes for the cities around it as well as the dirt and rocks would be used to fill in Foster City. In the 1970’s the People around the city began to speak up trying to prevent the development of infrastructure which was going to be developed on the mountain. The Mountain was loved by these people that worked together and even got the mountain to be saved. Due to the endangered Butterflies which are found in abundance on the mountain as well as rare flowers the mountain was saved. Through the use of active citizens who donate their time to assist with preserving the habitat around the mountain it has been able to flourish.
